>> We all aspire to make music that's ageless and that brings joy to folks long after we're just dust in the ground.
And to suppose you would make art that would inspire listeners for generations and that you'd live to see it, well, I think that's about the biggest reward you can get in this industry, uh, than that legacy.
Paul Simon's most certainly achieved that, and his record "There Goes Rhymin' Simon" has been spinning in our collective hearts for 50 years.
>> Tonight The Milk Carton Kids have recruited Noah Kahan to help them celebrate that anniversary.
Get it!
[ music ] >> Singing: Many's the times I've been mistaken And many times confused Yes and I've often Felt forsaken And certainly misused Oh but I'm alright I'm alright I'm just weary to my bones Still you don't expect To be bright and bon vivant So far away from home So far away from home [ cheers and applause ] >> I don't know a soul who's not been battered Don't have a friend Who feels at ease Don't know a dream That's not been shattered And driven to its knees But it's alright It's alright For we lived so well so long Still when I think of The road we're traveling on I wonder what's gone wrong Can't help it I wonder what's gone wrong [ cheers and applause ] And dreamed I was dying I dreamed that my soul Rose unexpectedly Looking back down at me Smiled reassuringly And I dreamed I was flying And high up above My eyes could clearly see The Statue of Liberty Sailing away to sea And I dreamed I was flying We come on the ship they call The Mayflower We come on the ship that sailed the moon We come in the age's most uncertain hours And sing an American tune Oh but it's all right It's all right It's all right You can't be forever blessed Still tomorrow's going to be another working day And I'm trying to get some rest That's all I'm trying to get some rest And so I'm trying to get some rest [ cheers and applause ] >> Thank you.
[ indistinct chatter ] >> From Peguis First Nation up near Winnepeg, Canada.

[ music ] >> Singing: Is the moon shinin' bright where you are?
Is it even shining at all Running like a white line Down the middle of Some old memory Does the evening unfold in waves The desire to go nowhere But to go out and rage Like a time when it was more than Just some old memory When you miss someone Tears you apart and then some When you miss someone Someone you loved Is the silence quiet or loud A lifetime of questions Lost and profound Professin' to a silhouette of trees on the ground here in front of you When you miss someone It tears you apart and then some When you miss someone Someone you loved Now a tear in your absence My mind doin' backflips Reserve tank running on E Enter galactic Enter the static Searching for a memory When you miss someone Oh when you miss someone [ music ] >> How's that feel so far, Nashville?

Please welcome back to this Ryman stage, my very favorite trailblazers, Nickel Creek.
Ah!
[ cheers and applause ] One, two... one, two... [ music ] >> singing: Well the line Was so long I had to see Where it led myself Pretty sure that I could feel What the think pieces Said they felt At least enough to follow The night's conversation At a party full of fellow Wanna be sensations Saying that's what's going on And if you don't wanna be Left behind Be the next jam Pumping in the background Of everybody's grind Streaming out of the windows Of whatever we're driving So that when we show up It sounds more like We're arriving at the big time We wanna have a big time We're gonna have a big time Where the long line leads We only have a short time So make it a big one Ooh ooh And instead of the list You'll be on the marquee Smoke rising from the fire Where the long line leads Well sign me up Tell me every last thing I'm gonna need to change So no think piece can feel That I was ever any other way And when they say I've hit my stride I'll be ready to strut Which foot you think'll Look best in front of the other Dance dancing up a hill To houses you can see From miles around Sure a quake will probably Take 'em but we chance it To impress this town To become one of the angels Who have earned their wings Flapping madly so they don't Become the last big thing At the big time We wanna have a big time We're gonna have a big time Where the long line leads We only have a short time So make it a big one Ooh ooh ooh In the flames where we go To show off and be showed Like it isn't what we're doing But how many other people know I'm gonna hit the big time And when I hit the big time Y'all are gonna have a big time Where the long line leads It might be a short time But it's gonna be a big one Gonna shake ya like the big one We're having us a big time We're gonna have a big time Showing everyone our big times On our little feeds We only have a short time So we're making it a big one Ooh ooh ooh ooh 'Til none of us have waited In a line so long Or so loudly told so many That's what's going on Or so quietly wondered why we didn't feel the heat Smoke rising from the ashes where the long line leads Oh-oh-oh [ music ] [ cheers and applause ] >> [indistinct].

[ music ] [ music ] Singing: I wish I was a flame Dancing in a candle Lighting up your living room High on the mantle I could bring some romance without any scandal And then when you were done You'd just put me out I wish I was a tune you sang in your kitchen Putting your groceries away And washing your dishes I could float around your tongue And ease the tension And then when you were done You'd just quiet down But if I get too close Will the magic fade Would I turn you off or away If I pull you in Now would I push you out Of something here you care about Well I'm at a loss for what to do But I'm drawn to you I wish I was a sweater Just wrapped around your hips And when it got too cold Into me you'd slip And when the sun came back Darlin' you would hang me up And I would watch you while you undress But if I get too close Will the magic fade?
Would I turn you off or away If I pull you in Now would I push you out Of something here you care about Well I'm at a loss for what to do But I'm drawn to you [ music ] I'm not a song I am not a sweater I'm not a fire No I'm something better I'm a man in love writing you a letter Will you take it Will you keep it Will you read it Believe it I love you I'm sorry [ cheers and applause ] >> When the Americana Music Association gives out our lifetime achievement award, they're not meant to end or to be an end point to any given career.
They're meant to inspire artists to continue creating, and nobody has embraced that challenge more than our next guest.
Please welcome the incomparable Bonnie Raitt.
[ cheers and applause ] [ music ] It starts out slow Go ahead and go Pretty soon the melody Is like a rainstorm tin roof symphony But it starts out slow It goes on and on For way too long Ooh Ooh Ooh It always ends on a bad note If you could dance at all you'd dance alone It goes on and on The quiet behind a slamming door The break of a heart that won't break no more Get-away wheels in a straight line Serenade of a made up mind >> Yeah, Mary.
Singing: There ain't no rhyme Just wasted time Moonlight spotlight shining down on A made up mind and a love gone wrong There ain't no rhyme The quiet behind a slamming door The break of a heart that won't break no more Get-away wheels in a straight line Serenade of a made up mind The quiet behind a slamming door The break of a heart that won't break no more Get-away wheels in a straight line Serenade of a made up mind Got a made up mind Moonlight spotlight shining down on a made up mind and a love gone wrong Moonlight spotlight shining down on a made up mind and a love gone wrong Moonlight spotlight shining down on a made up mind and a love gone wrong [ cheers and applause ] >> Thank you, Americana.

Everybody be safe.
This is everybody and Cripple Creek.
Singing: Up on Cripple Creek She sends me If I spring a leak, She mends me I don't have to speak 'Cause she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one Good luck had just stung me To the race track I did go She bet on one horse to win And I bet on another to show The odds were in our favor I had 'em five to one When that nag to win came around the track Sure enough we had won Up on Cripple Creek She sends me If I spring a leak, she mends me, I don't have to speak
